Excalibur Curling Teams Set for OUA Championship Showdown in Welland

The Trent Excalibur men's and women's curling teams will compete at the 2026 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Curling Championships this weekend, Friday, Feb. 7 to Sunday, Feb. 9, at the Welland Curling Club. The championship is hosted by Brock University and will feature the province's top university curling programs.

Both Excalibur squads enter the weekend with momentum after consistent performances throughout the 2025–26 season, positioning themselves as strong contenders in the competition.

Women's Team: A Season of Podium Finishes

The Excalibur women have put together an impressive campaign this season. They opened the year with a dominant performance at the Guelph Invitational, going undefeated and capturing the championship. That momentum continued at the Trent Invitational, where the women once again finished first, topping an eight-team field on home ice.

At the McMaster Invitational, Trent posted a 3–1 record in pool play to advance to the A final, ultimately finishing second after an 8–3 loss to the Brock Badgers. The team followed that performance with another solid showing at the Brock Invitational, finishing second in their pool after four round-robin games.

Men's Team: Building Toward Championship Weekend

The Excalibur men have also had a competitive season against strong opposition. They opened the year at the Guelph Invitational with a 4–1 record and a semifinal appearance, setting the tone for the rest of the season. At the Trent Invitational, the men were the only undefeated team in the field, finishing 3–0 and ranking first overall.

The team faced a challenging draw at the McMaster Invitational, ending round-robin play with a 2–2 record and finishing third after pool play. They closed the weekend on a high note, defeating Brock 9–2 to secure third place overall. Like the women, the men also finished second in their pool at the Brock Invitational following four round-robin games.

Men's Roster

At the OUA Championships, the stakes extend beyond an OUA medal. The top three teams from both the men's and women's competitions will advance to the 2026 U SPORTS Curling Championships, set for February 17–21 in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Historically, the Trent Excalibur curling program has one OUA championship to its name, captured by the 2011 men's team. That squad went on to compete at the U SPORTS national championship in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, finishing fourth of eight teams in round-robin standings. This weekend offers both current teams a chance to add to that legacy.
